In 2011 I decided to resume my degree in animation. I think it was a great decision, as a student I had contact with a lot of people who care about to improve my work. One of my teachers said to me: try things that isn't in your usual environment, experiment different technics and enjoy the process.

My sister's cats

Looking for a way to annoy my sister, I decided to draw her cats. At the beginning was a excuse to training digital paint technic, but painting with colored pencils I saw that could be nice let the pencil strokes appearance and give just final touches in digital medium. One thing that I liked about this drawings was try to capture the personality of each cat. They have a lot of peculiar characteristics and behaviors, but I tried to catch the properties that causes laughs in our family.

Here is the four treasures...

Pituca (the first ot my sister's four cats).

Kasparov (the most sympathetic and patthetic).

Shikaka (the freak mad cat).

Batatinha (behaves like a regular cat).

Thank you!

Piracicaba 2012

August of this year I received one of most wonderful news of my career: First Prize in Caricature and Grand Award in 39th International Humor Exhibition of Piracicaba. For a while I couldn't believe in what was happening to me, looks like too much. I even don't think that I really deserve the price, I saw so many wonderful works of so many artists that I follow and admire that some times I feel myself like a real nosy guy that luckily fell into a fantastic happening.

The best things in my life seems to happening so accidentally, every happening looks like a very fragile combination of factors that say to me: "just keep going!". My wife, for example, I met almost by accident and we are together about twelve years now. I am always trying to keep going, following this undefined sensation.

I wouldn't send the Louis Armstrong caricature to the festival, I don't know why, and I just have to say thank you to my brother Raphael and my dear Renata that encouraged me to send my work to Piracicaba this year. Renata said to me: "It's done, don't hurts send... so send it!". I did that, and was wonderful!

Was a unique experience, I was so well treated by the fellows of exhibition organization and the judges, and had the chance to personally meet a lot of artists that I am fan of. Besides that, Raphael, Renata and I had a very good time with our great friend Rafael de Latorre! I have to say thank you to my friends in Piracicaba too!

This post was in my drafts for several days, unfinished, mainly because I couldn't translate in words what this prize means. I just decided to express this feeling here, in this few empty words.

Thank you for read this blog post until here! :)
Thank you International Humor Exhibition of Piracicaba! :D

Facial blend shapes image guide

Hello fellow :)

These days I was trying to catalog some facial shapes to don't forget cartoon basic facial shapes during blend shapes sculpting process or facial bones setup. I've created this image with some of the shapes that I consider important.

Click here to see this image in hi-res.

In this attempt, my goal was to have a guide to help me, but I decided to share this to get feedback and suggestions. Feel free to send me a message about this document, I'll be very glad :).

My old colored pencils :)

These days I've tried something little bit different, but very nice to do. I resuscitated my old colored pencils and this brought me a brand new inspiration!

This caricature above was second place at the weekly contest Caricaturama Showdown 3000. Was a great and inspiring surprise the positive feedback that I received.

Besides that, the great cartoonist Jal (José Alberto Lovetro) invited me, with a lot of fantastic artists that I admire, to participate of a nice tribute to the unique writter, journalist and cartoonist Millôr Fernandes.

Now I love my colored pencils again :).

I hope you enjoy, thank you for passing here! :D

Select poligons with more than 4 sides in maya.

When you are modeling organic objects in Maya, maybe you will desire to select, among hundreds of polygon faces, the faces that have more or less than four sides. You can easily do this operation using the "Cleanup..." command under the menu mesh >> Cleanup... . Using this command you can select or directly change faces based in some parameters.

To select faces with more than four sides you can check the option "Select matching polygons" under "Cleanup Effect" and check "Faces with more than 4 sides" under "Fix by Tesselation" .

To select faces with less than four sides you can check the option "Select matching polygons" under "Cleanup Effect" and check "4-sided faces" under "Fix by Tesselation" . This will select all 4-sided faces and you can invert your selection doing a lasso selection around the entire object with "shift" key pressed.

Well, I hope this help someone :)

Insanely Fantastic :D

Today I received a marvelous news: My Louis Armstrong caricature has been awarded the CG Choice Award and is now being displayed on the Choice Gallery at CGTalk. This is absolutely fantastic and surreal for me. I pursuit this prize some time now and I feel like a great achievement.

A couple days ago my work was plugged on CGtalk front page and this already was awesome. When I've posted the caricature on CGTalk, I was hopping being well received. I was very confident with this work, but everything that happened since then is completely beyond my expectations. I had the unique opportunity to talk with great artists like Victorior, Felideus, Denis Zilber, Joerg Warda, Yoann LORI, Tiago Hoisel, Pedro Conti, Lucas Leibholz, Gustavo Groppo, Andrew Hickinbottom and so many others fav artists. I was very happy seing my work with some highlights inside CG portfolio page and suddenly I receive an email saying about the CG Choice award.

I have to say thank you to my dear brother Raphael, who always look to my drawings and say mood up comments and to my dear wife Renata, who is very patient and support me to accomplish my tries. I have to say thank you specially to Victorior, who always encourage a lot of artists around the cg communities, including me.

I know, I know... this is being a little ridiculous, looks like an actor receiving an oscar... who cares, its fantastic! :D

Dita Von Teese caricature

In this caricature I think that I had a little different approach than usual. I was concerned with push the caricature further, but one of the main characteristics of Dita is her sensuality and I wouldn't loose this with too much deformation. Anyway, this still a caricature and need to be funny :)

I've tried to bring some retro feeling to the visual composition, she has this kind of pinup visual. Painting this job was definitely really enjoyable and quite fast. I took a couple of days to compose this piece.

Fortunately, Dita caricature was chosen as the week challenge winner at Bookface caricatures artists website. Besides that, this caricature was featured in CGArena website.

I hope u enjoyed!

Jason Kidd caricature :D

Recently I came back to do caricatures. This is a very enjoyable activity, specially when we do just for fun, training painting skills and enjoying try to bring some creative solutions for a nice distortion without to loose the likeness.
In a weekly contest called Caricaturama Showdown 3000, I participated of the Jason Kidd caricature challenge. Fortunately I had some special results with this piece. That week my work was chosen among a lot of great entries to be the winner. Later I posted this piece in several social art network websites. Happily my caricature was selected to be part of the issue 74 of 2DArtist Magazine. Besides that Jason Kidd caricature was featured in CGArena website.

I'm very happy with all nice things that happened with this piece. This really cheer me up and bring me more and more fun to do this kind of work :)
